August 20, 2008: 19 Schools Named as "Persistently Dangerous” Under NCLB - State Education Commissioner Richard Mills announced that 19 schools have been identified as “persistently dangerous” under the federal No Child Left Behind Act. Last year 27 schools were identified. Pursuant to federal requirements, the list of schools is being announced so that parents can exercise their right of school choice. August 11, 2008: High School Graduation Rates for 2003 Total Cohort - all public high schools and school districts.
July 2, 2008:Statewide Summer Reading Program Website Online with Activities and Ideas for Summer Reading - The Statewide Summer Reading Program web site is now online with ideas, links, and activities for librarians and educators planning for the 2008 program - Catch the Reading Bug @ Your Library.
Follow Up of the Summit - A Call to Action New York State School and District Report Cards P-16 Education: A Plan For Action - For a decade, student achievement has improved in response to Regents policy and action. But the improvement is not sufficient. The achievement gap has narrowed, but not closed. The world has also changed as billions of people have entered the global economy and ignited a global education boom. The Regents will engage with statewide and local partners to implement this plan for the next stage of educational reform to accomplish the six USNY aims.
